Angola
is nestled in the northeast corner of Indiana in Steuben County. As of the 2000 census, the population was 7,344. The city is home to Trine University and is served by I-69 and the Indiana Toll Road (I-80 and I-90,) which gives it the distinction of being called the "Crossroads of America." Angola is known for its lakes, Pokagon State Park, and beautiful Trine University campus. Construction of a new bike and hiking trails has been completed, giving residents and visitors over four miles of available trails. Grants have also been received towards revitalization of Angola's downtown area. The region also offers golf, horseback riding, camping, picnicking, and lakes and streams for canoeing and kayaking. Pokagon State Park is approximately five miles north of Angola, It is named for the 19th century Potawatomi Chief Leopold and his son, Simon Pokagon. The park offers camping, an inn and a staff of full-time naturalists. The park is bordered by Lake James on the west and south and Snow Lake on the north. Various wetlands can be seen throughout the park and the Potawatomi Nature Preserve makes up a large portion of its east side. Over ten miles of hiking trails wind through the park, and the toboggan run is a popular destination during the winter. Visitors can reach speeds of 35-40 miles an hour on the quarter mile (400 m) long track.

The Northeast Corner of Indiana has four distinct seasons. Summers are very warm, accompanied by occasional high humidity and thunderstorms. This can become uncomfortable, but generally doesn't last long and isn't excessive. Winter consists of cold temperatures and lots of snow, especially in the snowbelt area near the Ohio/Michigan border. Spring and fall have mild days and cool nights. Expect more rain in late spring and early summer, including thunderstorms. Fall is usually the sunniest season with plenty of mild days to enjoy the colors of the season. Extreme weather, such as tornadoes, are possible in Indiana, although it is not officially part of tornado alley.
