Fort-Wayne
is the second largest city in Indiana, with a population of 251,591. It's located in Allen County in the northeastern part of the state, just 20 miles west of the Ohio border. The city of Fort Wayne is home to several festivals. Germanfest commemorates Fort Wayne's largest ethnic group, and Greek Fest is a four-day event held at the end of June. A BBQ RibFest is also held in mid-June at Headwaters Park, the Johnny Appleseed Festival is a two-day event held in September and a Holiday Fest starts in late November. The largest event, however, is the Three Rivers Festival, which attracts some 400,000 visitors annually. This festival spans nine days in mid-July and features over 200 events, a parade, food alley, arts and crafts, fireworks and more. Fort Wayne also offers several museums, such as the African/African-American Historical Museum, the Fort Wayne Firefighters Museum and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Fort Waynes first park (and smallest), the 0.2 acre Old Fort Park, was established in 1863. Franke Park is Fort Waynes most extensive park, at 316.4 acres, and is also home to the Fort Wayne's Children's Zoo. In addition, other attractions in the city include the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, Hurshtown Reservoir and new paths and paved walking trails along the riverbanks, known as the Rivergreeway Trail System.

Northwest Indiana has a four-season climate typical of most of the Midwest, with a few exceptions due to its proximity to Lake Michigan. Cold air passing over the warmer lake water induces precipitation in the lee of Lake Michigan in autumn and winter. As a result of this phenomena, heavy winter precipitation, especially snowfall, can extend eastward from Gary inland to as far as Elkhart. Lake-related snowfall and cloudiness can extend to central Indiana in winter, driven by strong northwesterly winds. In the spring, daily maximum temperatures decrease northward in northern Indiana because of the cooling effect of the Lake. Average daily minimum temperatures in autumn are higher in northwestern Indiana near the warmer lake surface than farther south.
