Nashville
is located in Brown County in south-central Indiana, just one hour south of Indianapolis. As of the 2000 census, the population was 826. To many country music fans, Nashville is known as "Little Nashville," home to the Little Nashville Opry (which burned down in September, 2009.) Nashville boasts a thriving tourist industry based on its' many resident artists and the areas natural beauty. Nearby Brown County State Park is visited by more than a million people per year, many of whom come to see spectacular fall colors in the trees of the forests. Brown County State Park is also home to some of the best mountain biking in the Midwest and was host to the biking event during 1987 Pan American Games. Nashville is also known for its unique shopping, with hundreds of specialty, antique, crafts and art galleries. Often visitors can watch artists at demonstrating their trade. Artworks on exhibit and sale include watercolor, sculpture, stained glass, hand carved furniture, custom jewelry and one of a kind perfumes. Nashville has a number of entertainment venues. Among them are the Coachlight Theatre (formerly Nashville Follies Musical Theatre) and the Brown County Playhouse. The latter is operated by the Indiana University-Bloomington. Recreational activities available in Nashville include hiking, biking and golf.

The Central portion of Indiana , called the Till Plains, lies to the south of the Great Lakes Plains. It's part of the great Midwestern Corn Belt and is characterized by low hills and valleys. The climate is classified as humid-continental with four distinct seasons. Winters are cold, sometimes bitterly so, and summers are warm and humid. Monthly average temperatures range from a high of 88.8 degrees in summer to a low of 15.8 degrees in winter. The transition from cold to hot weather can produce an active spring with thunderstorms and tornadoes. Autumn is favored by many residents as a pleasant time of the year with lower humidity than the other seasons, and mostly sunny skies.
