Kokomo
is located in north-central Indiana and is the county seat for Howard County. It is Indiana's 13th largest city with a population of approximately 46,000. The city of Kokomo is home to several interesting museums, including the Howard County Historical Society, which is housed in the Seiberling Mansion, the Elliot House and their carriage houses. The Seiberling Mansion was originally the residence of one of Kokomos richest citizens, Monroe Seiberling, and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. The Elliot House also began as a residence and was then converted into office space. During the winter the historical society has Christmas at the Seiberling, an event which has activities for all ages, including a visit from Santa, tours of buildings and the lighting of the buildings. Carriage rides through the Old Silk Stocking Neighborhood are also available, which is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other attractions in the city include the Elwood Haynes Museum, Kokomo Automotive Museum and the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Factory. Highland Park is the Crown Jewel of the Kokomo Park System. This scenic, 80-acre park is home to the giant Sycamore Stump, the Vermont Covered Bridge and Kokomo Creek. Located right next to the city, it's also the site of the Kokomo Park Band Concerts on Wednesday evenings from June to early August. The Kirkendall Interpretive Nature Center, in Kokomo, teaches visitors about native Indiana wildlife through programs and kid's activities throughout the year.

Central Indiana has a humid continental climate, with cold winters and warm, humid summers. Temperatures generally diverge somewhat from the north and south sections of the state, with the annual mean temperature being 49 degrees F. in the north and 57 degrees F. in the south. While droughts occasionally occur in the southern region, rainfall totals are usually equally distributed throughout the state. The annual snowfall in Indiana averages less than 22 inches. Indiana is one of the most tornado-prone states in the country. Despite its vulnerability, however, Indiana is not a part of tornado alley.
