Logansport
is located in Cass County in north-central Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the population was 19,350. The city is situated at the junction of the Wabash and Eel Rivers, northeast of Lafayette. Logansport is home of the McHale Performing Arts Center, which hosts several live-performance shows per year. As a modern facility for the performing arts, the McHale Arts Center is comparable to similar-sized venues in similar-sized cities throughout the Great Lakes region, such as the Honeywell Center in Wabash, Indiana, the Tibbets Opera House in Coldwater, Michigan, and the Croswell Opera House in Adrian, Michigan. Logansport hosts an annual arts festival, "Art on the Avenue," every September, which is the largest art festival in the region. Many of the areas festivals and events are held at Little Turtle Waterway, an architect-designed public space and trail system along the Wabash River in downtown Logansport. Logansport also hosts the annual "Med Flory Jazz Festival" every spring. Med Flory is a well-known jazz musician and actor from Logansport. Other annual festivals in Logansport include, "Light up Logansport Parade," held the Friday after Thanksgiving to welcome the Christmas season, and the "Taste Of Cass County" held every August in downtown Logansport.

Northwest Indiana has a four-season climate typical of most of the Midwest, with a few exceptions due to its proximity to Lake Michigan. Cold air passing over the warmer lake water induces precipitation in the lee of Lake Michigan in autumn and winter. As a result of this phenomena, heavy winter precipitation, especially snowfall, can amount to as much as 76 inches, compared to 14 inches in the south. Lake-related snowfall and cloudiness can extend to central Indiana in winter, driven by strong northwesterly winds. In the spring, daily maximum temperatures decrease northward in northern Indiana because of the cooling effect of the Lake. Average daily minimum temperatures in autumn are higher in northwestern Indiana near the warmer lake surface than farther south.
