Boone
County is located almost in the exact center of the state of Indiana. The 2009 estimated population was 56,250 residents. The county seat is the town of Lebanon. Boone County was formed April 1, 1830, and named for frontiersman Daniel Boone. It is only 30 minutes from downtown Indianapolis and 20 minutes from the Indianapolis International Airport. Visitors to Boone County will find that there is something for everyone. From charming, historic villages with brick streets, and picturesque towns with unique shops, antiques and restaurants, to wonderful, small-town family festivals. Boone County is also world-renowned for its' chocolatiers. Jamestown, one of the villages of Boone County, is home to a beautiful nature park that consists of trails, picnic facilities, a gazebo and an overlook. Another of Boone County's towns, Zionsville, is well known throughout central Indiana for its carefully preserved historical homes, unique shops, antiques, fine restaurants and quaint cafes. Central Indiana has a humid continental climate, with cold winters and warm, humid summers. Temperatures generally diverge somewhat from the north and south sections of the state, with the annual mean temperature being 49 degrees F. in the north and 57 degrees F. in the south. While droughts occasionally occur in the southern region, rainfall totals are usually equally distributed throughout the state. The annual snowfall in Indiana averages less than 22 inches. Indiana is one of the most tornado-prone states in the country. Despite its vulnerability, however, Indiana is not a part of tornado alley.
