Warsaw
Warsaw is the county seat for Kosciusko County in northern Indiana. It's located along the Historic Lincoln Highway at the intersection of U.S. 30 and State Road 15. As of 2006, the population was 13,082. Nestled among Winona Lake, Pike Lake, Hidden Lake and Center Lake, Warsaw is nicknamed Lake City, though other cities in the surrounding area are also referred to by that nickname. Incorporated in 1854, Warsaw soon became a tourist destination due to its' central location to the lake region. It also became known as the "Orthopedic Capital of the World," home to the first orthopedic device manufacturer in 1895 Revra DePuy of the DePuy Manufacturing Company. Recreational activities abound in Warsaw, including fishing, boating and swimming, picnicking and camping. The Lake City Greenway is a trail that traverses between Warsaw and Winona Lake with approximately 4.5 miles of hiking/biking trails. The City-County Athletic Complex is located on the west side of Warsaw where over 3,000 softball and soccer games are played each year. Warsaw is also home to the Wagon Wheel Theater, which hosts local and national plays, several live music venues, two golf courses and a Biblical Garden. Warsaw hosts "Back to the Days of Kosciusko" each July and is attended by the Northwest Territory Alliance, a Revolutionary War reenactment group.

Northwest Indiana has a four-season climate typical of most of the Midwest, with a few exceptions due to its proximity to Lake Michigan. Cold air passing over the warmer lake water induces precipitation in the lee of Lake Michigan in autumn and winter. As a result of this phenomena, heavy winter precipitation, especially snowfall, can extend eastward from Gary inland to as far as Elkhart. Lake-related snowfall and cloudiness can extend to central Indiana in winter, driven by strong northwesterly winds. In the spring, daily maximum temperatures decrease northward in northern Indiana because of the cooling effect of the Lake. Average daily minimum temperatures in autumn are higher in northwestern Indiana near the warmer lake surface than farther south.
