Bridgeton
is a historic, small town located in Parke County in west-central Indiana. Parke County is called "The Covered Bridge Capital of the World," with a total of 31 of the bridges nestled along the county's back roads. The town of Bridgeton is home to one of the picturesque bridges. The first Bridgeton covered bridge was a 245-foot, double span Burr Arch bridge built in 1868. The bridge was closed to traffic in 1968 and burned by an arsonist in 2005. Local citizens rebuilt a historically accurate reconstruction of the bridge, which was completed in October, 2006. Bridgeton is also home to the oldest continuously operating mill west of the Allegheny Mountains, and the first two blocks of town are a registered National Historic District. The mill overlooks the covered bridge and a lovely waterfall. The town also features several special events during the year, including the Covered Bridge Festival in October. This event draws thousands for the crafts, antiques, collectibles and lots of good food. It's also a great time to visit the area for the changing of the autumn leaves. Other festivals in Bridgeton include Milling Days, which takes place the weekend after Labor Day and Country Christmas, the last weekend in November and first weekend in December.

The Central portion of Indiana , called the Till Plains, lies to the south of the Great Lakes Plains. It's part of the great Midwestern Corn Belt and is characterized by low hills and valleys. The climate is classified as humid-continental with four distinct seasons. Winters are cold, sometimes bitterly so, and summers are warm and humid. Monthly average temperatures range from a high of 88.8 degrees in summer to a low of 15.8 degrees in winter. The transition from cold to hot weather can produce an active spring with thunderstorms and tornadoes. Autumn is favored by many residents as a pleasant time of the year with lower humidity than the other seasons, and mostly sunny skies.
